STRAW BALE HOUSING (reply) |

| It would be great to have a japanese style dojo for Judo and meditation get togethers. Right now I need about 20 bales of straw 2'X3'. Maybe fewer to start. I just need a wall for my kid to kick his soccer ball against. |

Hi Darby:
Can you send me or Holly an email (kratuski@hotmail.com) I think she sent out minutes to those on the mailing list..you may not have been on it. Thanks! Kim |

Sorry I missed the meeting on the 8th. Did anyone take minutes? If so, is there a way they could be posted or e-mailed so that those (like me) who missed the meeting can stay in the loop?
Thanks in advance,
Darby

Hello all,
Great seeing everyone come out & support this group & share their ideas. Just a technical note, I'm having a real hard time registering for this forum, but it's nice to know that we can post as "guests".
Anyway, I have a little question, I know at the last meeting we discussed having a meeting in September. Has a date, time & place been set? If not, no biggie. I'm just trying to plan my september schedule…
Thanks in advance!
Keep supporting grass roots arts! Darby

Hello Everyone!
I wonder if would be easier to use just ONE thread from Patti's website?? From now on, let's use the first thread LOWAC has. Easier to check and respond...
Thanks all-

A good point, Jon. I encourage everyone to think WAY outside the box in this (and in all we do.) Let's make sure the logo is thinking of future growth, too--additions to the collective...in my mind, this means not being so definitive of the look, but abstractly making the statement. Hope this makes sense. Keep the great ideas coming... |

I'd like to give some positive reinforcement to visual artists thinking about logos. There has been much discussion about inclusivity and I'd like to colour outside of the lines for a minute. I'm just saying that someone dancing, a pen, a paintbrush, music notes, etc. may be a limited notion of inclusivity.
I would like to see a logo that is inclusive without being literally inclusive. A shared value, a physical representation of creativity, with a splash of magic. I think that's where the best creative work will emerge. Not that it's really any of my business, I'm just trying to empower creativity. |

Thanks, Molly!
This is, and always will be, a GROUP effort, so a big pat on the collective back. I am so very happy to have so many talented, visionary folks to work with...
Keep the ideas FLOWING, everyone. Logos, mission statements, projects, venues....these are all something that we need some creative input on.
Hope to see you all at the Norval Morrisseau exhibit --wine and cheese WEDNESDAY AUGUST 6th--then at GIZZAE--at the lakeside Inn--later same night. Tix at Sure Thing.

| Definitely Kim, I would love to help out on the board and a nomintion would be welcomed. I am still unsure whether I will be at the garden party, I have a family wedding that is a full weekend affair. Shauna will be there for sure though, and will keep me in the loop if I can't work it out. Take care! |

There is no specific rule on this, Jason. In fact, it is wide open. The only thing that we ask is it is in a standard size...on a 8 x 11 paper. It can be sketched/coloured/whatever. When we did the Forms of Hope logo, it went to the group a couple of times for revision, and we as a group looked at it and made the suggested edits. So, in reality it was four or five of us who made the thing..
This group (Lake of the Woods Arts Collective) is a collective of artists from all disciplines....theatre, music, visual art, dance, literary...It should probably try to encompass these. I will lay the submissions out, on Thursday, at the Garden Party, number them (you ca...

I will send out directions once again in a reminder email this week. Other details: 5:30 pm Thursday, July 31st. Bring: Ideas. Lots of ideas. Opinions: we are voting for a board, and hopefully, a logo. We will also be looking at our future. .. What few projects will we undertake in the community? Last call for agenda items, too, if you feel something else needs attention. Thanks all!

Ah yes, Shauna mentioned the need for a logo to me in an email. I have some ideas dancing around in my head and will be putting them to paper soon (like after I write this). The problem is I haven't yet been to any meetings and thus don't know what we're looking for beyond "logo wich reflects all arts" which is a broad ctagory. A coat of arms like an old skool middle-ages Guild is about the best I've thought of. (the coat of arms incl. a symbol of each art) Any suggestions?
My internets access is sketchy and infrequent (the library *groans*) but I'll be somewhere w. acces until the 28th. |

|
| I'm totally interested in this. Shauna gave me the heads up about it and challenged me to come up with some ideas & sketches for a logo. Anyone else up for the challenge? Looking forward to meeting you all on the 31st |

Great, Kristen!! Looking forward to seeing you there...could i nominate you for Board, then? |
|
|
|
| I am definitely interested in being a part of this. I am no longer internetless and am in the process of freeing my schedule to attend the garden party. |

One other item....
I was hoping to showcase some live music on the 31st--any students out there wishing to play for a bit at the meet and greet, or if anyone wants to bring an instrument and jam, please do....we can pass a hat or something..this is, after all, about celebrating the arts... |

Thanks for offering your time and expertise, Holly.. We will put the names on the table at the Garden Party, and make our Board then, with the group's vote.
I am hoping the NO ONE gets burnt out from starting this ball rolling; it is a LARGE task. This is why I encourage each of you to look at your specialities/gifts and see what you can bring to this Collective. If we share, it will not only be less work, but more fun.
So, having said this, I would like to accept nomination for Board chair (thx LeeAnn), and am hoping there will be a co chair with whom to share the fun.

Anyone wishing to submit a logo --please have it ready to put forward on July 31st--the Garden Party. Sketches welcome, too...in either black and white/colour.
Hmmm--the fewer the rules, the better...BUT.... Let's keep it all the same size. Would standard 8 1/2 x 11 be good?
So far, I have heard from NO ONE on this, and am hoping we have something to look at.
Hello!!! Graphic Artists/Visual Artists!!!! ARE YOU OUT THERE?
